Undetermined Problems
Perform the following procedures to isolate
the failing FRU if
the diagnostics tests did not identify
which adapter or device failed,
or whether the installed devices are incorrect,
a short circuit is suspected,
or the system is inoperative.
NOTE:
Do not replace a nondefective FRU.
Before performing these procedures,
perform the following actions:
- Verify that all attached devices are supported by the computer.
- Verify that
the power supply being used at the time of the failure is operating
correctly.
(See 'Power Systems Checkout')
- Power-off the computer.
- Check the cables, wires, and connectors for
short circuits and open circuits.
Visually check them for damage.
If any problems are found, replace the FRU.
- Remove or disconnect all of the following devices:
- Non-IBM devices
- Devices attached to the expansion bus connector
- Printer, mouse, and other external devices
- Battery pack
- Hard disk drive
- Diskette drive or the device attached to the diskette drive
connector
- SO-DIMM card
- PCMCIA cards
NOTE:
Remember that removing the hard disk drive,
a SO-DIMM card,
or any adapter or device will cause configuration errors.
Error code 162 will occur.
- Power-on the computer.
- Determine whether the problem has changed.
- If the problem does not occur again,
reconnect the removed devices one
at a time until you find the failing FRU.
- If the problem remains, replace the following FRUs one at a time.
NOTE:
Do not replace a nondefective FRU.
- Inverter Card.
- LCD Assembly.
- Top System Board.
- Bottom System Board.
