Installing the Background-Server Component for Windows NT

This section provides the instructions needed to install the background-server components for Windows 3.5X and Windows 4.0.

Installing the Background Server Component for Windows 3.5X

1.  Insert the IBM ServeRAID Device Driver Diskette  into the diskette drive; then,  type the following to copy the IPSADM.EXE file to the hard disk:

     copy a:\nt\ipsadm.exe c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.exe

2.  Press Enter.
3.  Type the following to copy the IPSADM.ICO icon file to the hard disk:

     copy a:\nt\ipsadm.ico c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.ico

4.  Press Enter.
5.  Select a group or create a new group to store the program.
    For example, open the Administrative Tools Group or create a new program group named IPSADM Admin-Monitor.
6.  Click on File, click on New, click on Personal Item, and then click on OK.
7.  Type the following information in the data fields:

          Description:      IPSRAID Admin-Monitor
          Command Line:     C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\IPSADM.EXE
          Working Dir:      C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32
    

8.  Click on Change Icon; then, click on OK in the information window.
9.  In the Change Icon window, type:

     c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.ico

     or,

    click on Browse and select C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\IPSADM.ICO.

10.  Click on OK for the icon.
11.  Click on OK for the Personal Item.
12.  Double-click on the new icon to access the Administration and Monitoring Program.

Installing the Background Server Component for Windows 4.0

1.  Insert the IBM ServeRAID Device Driver Diskette into the diskette drive; then, type the following  to copy the IPSADM.EXE file to the hard disk:

     copy a:\nt\ipsadm.exe c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.exe

2.  Press Enter.
3.  Type the following to copy the IPSADM.ICO icon file to the hard disk:

     copy a:\nt\ipsadm.ico c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.ico

4.  Press Enter.
5.  Complete the following steps to create a new program shortcut:
   1.  Using the right mouse button, click on the Desktop.
   2.  Click on New; then, click on Shortcut.
   3.  In the Create Shortcut window type:

        c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.exe

   4.  Click on Next.
   5.  In the Select a Title for the Program window, type:

        IPSRAID Admin-Monitor Server

   6.  Click on Finish.

6.  Using the right mouse button, click on the icon.
7.  Click on Properties, click on Shortcut, and then click on Change Icon.
8.  In the Information window, click on OK.
9.  In the Change Icon window, type:

     c:\winnt\system32\ipsadm.ico

10.  Click on OK for the icon; then, click on OK for the program properties.
11.  Double-click on the new icon to access the Administration and Monitoring Program.
