The DLTtape III XT and DLTtape IV tape cartridges sold by IBM have been designed and formulated for use in IBM's digital linear tape drives and libraries.
These high-grade, metal-particle tape cartridges feature demonstrated tape durability and a long archival life.

As with any data storage medium, digital linear tape cartridges require some care in handling and Storage.
The following guidelines ensure protection of your valuable data.
For longer life of recorded or unrecorded tape cartridges, store the tape cartridges in a clean environment with these conditions:

•  Do not drop or bang the cartridge. This can displace the tape leader, making  the cartridge unllsable and possibly damaging the drive.

    -Attention- In the event that a cartridge has been dropped from a height of  greater than three feet, IBM recommends that the cartridge not be used.

•  Store the data cartridge in the plastic enclosure it was shipped in.
•  Keep tape cartridges out of direct sunlight and away from heaters and other heat sources.
•  Store tape cartridges in temperatures between 5O°F to 104°F (1O°C to 40°C).
   For longer cartridge life, always store the cartridge in its plastic container and in
   room environment conditions of 72°F ± 7°F (22°C ± 4°C).
•  If the tape cartridge has been exposed to heat or cold extremes, stabilize the
   cartridge at room temperature tor the same amount of time it was exposed (up to 24 hours).
•  Do not place cartridges near electromagnetic interference sources, such as terminals, motors,
   and video or X-ray equipment. Data on the tape can be altered.
•  Store tape cartridges in a dust-free environment where the relative humidity is between 20% and 80%.
   For longer cartridge life, store the cartridges at 40% ± 20% relative humidity.
•  Place an identification label only in the slide-in slot on the front of the cartridge.
•  Do not adhere labels to a cartridge anywhere except in the slide-in slot.
