Hot-swap power supply removal
Hot-swap power supply removal
The server comes with one power supply. You can add a
second power supply to provide redundant power. Each
power supply has two status indicators; see
'Power supplies' for information about the status indicators.
-Attention- You
cannot hot-swap a power supply if the server has
only one power supply installed.
Refer to the illustration in
Hot-swap power supply installation
while you perform the steps in this procedure.
To remove a hot-swap power supply:
Never remove the cover on a power supply or any
part that has the following label attached.
Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are
present inside any component that has this label
attached. There are no serviceable parts inside these
components.
- If the server has only one power supply installed, turn
off the server and peripheral devices (see 'Preparing to install options');
otherwise, go to the next step.
- Remove the power supply 3:
- Remove the blue shipping thumbscrew from its
hole 5 on the power supply, if it has not
already been removed.
Note:
You do not need to replace the shipping thumbscrew.
- Remove the power-cord strain-relief bracket 4, if one is installed.
- Grasp the handle 6 on the power supply and
pull the handle toward the center of the server;
then, slide the power supply out of the chassis.
Note:
During normal operation, each power supply
bay should have either a power supply or
filler panel installed for proper cooling.
- If you are not installing a replacement power supply:
- Disconnect the power cord for the power supply that you removed.
- Install a power supply filler panel; then go to step 4.
If you are replacing the power supply:
- Place the handle 6 on the power supply in the
open position, and slide the power supply into the chassis.
- Gently close the handle 6 on the power supply
to seat the power supply in the bay.
- Verify that the ac Power light 7 and dc Power
light 9 are lit, indicating that the power supply
is operating correctly.
Caution:
If you install a strain-relief bracket option
over the end of the power cord that is
connected to the device, you must connect
the other end of the power cord to an easily
accessible power source.
- Install a power-cord strain-relief bracket 4, if desired.
- If you have other options to install or remove, do so
now; otherwise, go to 'Completing the installation'.
