The IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA, PCI or MC allows you to attach IBM Personal Computer systems, or IBM compatible computers
that meet ISA/EISA, PCI or MC standards, to a token-ring network.
The Auto 16/4 Adapter transmits and receives data
at a rate of either 4 or 16 Mbps over shielded twistet-pair (STP) or unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable.
The Auto 16/4 Adapter can be installed in either an 8-bit or 16-bit slot.
The ISA adapter is also compatible with industry-standard Plug and Play BIOS, configuration managers, and operating system functions.
Features of the Auto 16/4 ISA, PCI or MC Adapter include:
- Autosense, a configurable option that permits the adapter to detect and operate at the data rate of the attached ring.
- Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that aid in monitoring the status of the adapter and problem solving.
- Support for a variety of network operating systems and network applications.
- Support for up to two Auto 16/4 ISA or MC Adapters in a single computer.
- Support for RPL which enables a computer w/o a hard disk or diskette drive to automatically load its operating system and applications from a remote server.
- The LAN Support Program (LSP) Custom, which provides IEEE 802.2 logical link control (LLC) and NetBIOS protocol drivers for use on DOS systems.
Special features of the Auto Busmaster PCI Adapter
- Support for microcode update
- Can be plugged into any PCI-bus slot (half-size or full-size, 5V or 3.3V signaling, 32-bit or 64-bit)
- Uses less than 4 W of a 5 Vdc power supply
Installation Requirements
To connect the Auto 16/4 ISA, PCI or MC Adapter to a token-ring network, you need one or more of the following described cables.
Note : For EUROPEAN USERS - If the adapter is used with UTP cabling, you require cabling with a ferrite core
