PC Server 720 computers incorporate additional processor slots on the system board for installing up-to six 66/100MHz Pentium® processor cards to support Symmetric Multiprocessors/Multiprocessing (SMP). The SMP capability extends processing performance by allowing tasks to be dispatched to the next available processor rather then being queued until the busy processor has completed its task. The SMP capability also provides a level of of high availibility in that with some operating systems, such as OS/2 SMP, the system will run in a uni-processor mode if one of the processors should experience a failure. This function will allow the LAN to continue operation so that service can be scheduled at a non-critical time.
