Abstract: SYSTEM MANAGEMENT ADAPTER: SYSTEM MAY NOT START
SYMPTOM:
System will not start at all, with System Management adapter installed,
but will start if System Management adapter is removed.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
FIX:
Replace the System Management adapter with FRU P/N 07L5496.
WORKAROUND:
If the system will not power up or do a warm reboot, open the top and check the LEDs
at the top of the System Management adapter.
If the yellow light is ON, pull the System Management adapter out of the connector and try to start again.
If the system starts, then the System Management adapter is not functioning correctly and needs to be replaced.
If the system still fails to power up, replace the System Management adapter into the connector and proceed
with normal Problem Determination to identify problem.
Note: The System Management adapter can be reset by removing AC from the system for 20 seconds and replugging.
This should reset the System Management adapter and allow the system to boot.
If this fails, replace the adapter.
DETAILS:
The symptom occurs due to a latch hang on the System Management adapter in the Xilnex chip.
