New microcode is now available for some 68pin 9.1GB and 18.2GB Hard Disk Drives.
ABSTRACT:
New microcode improves "robustness" of specific Hard Disk Drive's Internal Diagnostics.

FIX:
Apply the IBM Drive Update Program to the HDD(s) by flashing with new microcode.
The four (4) IBM Drive Update Program image files are available from the following URL:

search on "IBM Drive Update Program"
The corresponding text files are viewable online and may be printed.
Note: When the program is started, it may find other hard files
in the system that it can upgrade.
It is recommended that these also be upgraded.
To create the update diskettes; downloaded the four (4) ".exe" files listed after searching on IBM Drive Update Program.
These files are self-extracting executable files that will prompt for diskettes.
Follow instructions on the display to create the diskettes.

Hard Disk Drives periodically perform internal diagnostics.
The 4F flash level and/or SAB0 Flash level and higher code improves
the robustness of the drive's internal diagnostics, eliminating
potential false diagnostic failure.
