This General Checkout procedure is for Type 6265, 6267, 6275, 6277, 6285, 6287, 6561, 6591, 6862, 6889, 6892, 6893, 6897 computers.

The drives in the computer you are servicing might have been rearranged or the drive startup sequence changed. Be extremely careful during write operations such as copying, saving, or formatting. Data or programs can be overwritten if you select an incorrect drive.
Diagnostic error messages appear when a test program finds a problem with a hardware option.
For the test programs to properly determine if a test Passed, Failed, or Aborted , the
test program check the error-return code at test completion. See 'Return Codes'.
General error messsages appear if a problem or conflict is found by an application program, the operating system,
or both. For an explanation of these messages, refer to the information supplied with that software package.
NOTE:
The power-on default is quick bring-up. To enable Enhanced bring-up, select the Start Options
in the Configuration/Setup Utility program (see 'Setup Utility Program') then, enable Power On Status

- Power-off the computer and all external devices.
- Check all cables and power cords.
- Make sure the system board is seated properly.
- Make sure the processor speed setting matches the processor installed in the computer.
- Set all display controls to the middle position.
- Insert the IBM PC Enhanced Diagnostics diskette into drive A.
- Power-on all external devices.
- Power-on the computer.
- Check for the following response:
1. Readable instructions or the Main Menu.
NOTE: Type 6263, 6265, 6267, 6275, 6277, 6285, 6287, 6561, 6591,
6862, 6865, 6872, 6889, 6892, 6893, 6897 computers are default to
come up quiet (No beep and no memory count and checkpoint code display)
when no errors are detected by POST.
To enable Beep and memory count and checkpoint code display when a successful POST occurs:
1. Enable Power on Status in setup. See 'Setup Utility Program'.

| 2. Select Power Management from the Configuration/Setup Utility program menu.
| 3. Select APM
| 4. Be sure APM BIOS Mode is set to Disabled
| if it is not, press Left Arrow (<) or Right Arrow (>) to change
| the setting.
| 5. Select Automatic Hardware Power Management
| 6. Set Automatic Hardware Power Management to Disabled

Run the IBM PC Enhanced Diagnostic test. If necessary, refer to 'Diagnostics and Test Information'.
° If you receive an error, replace the part that the diagnostic program calls out
or go to 'Symptom-to-FRU Index'
° If the test stops and you cannot continue, replace the last device tested.
° If the computer has incorrect keyboard responses, go to 'Keyboard'
° If the printer has incorrect responses, go to 'Printer'
° If the dsplay has problems such as jittering, rolling, shifting, or being out of focus,
go to 'Display'
