  Passwords

When the power-on password (POP), hard disk password (HDP), and setup password (SUP)
(the same function as supervisor password) are used, the following situations may occur:


Setup (Supervisor) and hard disk passwords:

The setup password and hard disk password are security features that are used to protect the system and the hard disk data from unauthorized access.
No overriding capability is provided, so cannot be replaced if they are forgotten.


  -Attention- The setup password and hard disk password can not be replaced if they are forgotten.
If the customer forgets the setup password, the system board must be replaced.
If the customer forgets the hard disk password, the hard disk must be replaced.


Removing the power-on password:

If only the power-on pasword is set, do the following to remove it:

  1.  Power off the computer.
  2.  Remove the battery and the AC Adapter.
  3.  Remove the backup battery (RTC) 20 minutes or use the screw driver to touch the backup battery (RTC) 1 sec.
  4.  Put back the backup battery (RTC).
  5.  Power on the computer and wait until the POST ends.
  6.  Verify that the password prompt does not appear.


If both the power-on password and the setup password are set, do the following to remove the password:

  1.  Power on the computer and press F1 to enter the BIOS Utility menu.
  2.  Enter the setup password.
  3.  The main screen displays as below:

                  BIOS Utility
                System Information
                Basic System Settings
                Startup Configuration
                Onboard Devices Configuration
                System Security
                Load Default Settings
     

  4.  Using the up or down arrow key, select System Security.
  5.  Press the Enter key.
     The password selection window appears:

                          System Security      Page 1/1
                Setup Password ----------------------------- [None]
                Power-on Password -------------------------- [None]
                Hard Disk Password ------------------------- [None]
     

  6.  Move the highlight bar to Power-on Password.
  7.  Select None.
  8.  Save the change, and exit the BIOS Utility menu.
