SYMPTOM:

Installing Red Hat Linux 6.1 with any two (2) or more SCSI controllers in the system results in an unbootable system (kernel panic).


PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:


WORKAROUND:


For both text and GUI installs:

  1.  At the "Congratulations, installation is complete." screen:

      press <Ctrl+Alt+F2>.

  2.  At the "bash#" prompt, type:

      cd /mnt/sysimage
      press <Enter>

  3.  Type the following command on a single line, and press <enter>:

      LC_ALL=C usr/sbin/chroot . /sbin/mkinitrd -f
      /boot/initrd-2.2.12-20.img 2.2.12-20

  4.  Type:

      usr/sbin/chroot . /sbin/lilo
      press <Enter>

  5.  Type:

      cd /
      press <Enter>

  6.  Return to the install screen:

  7.  Conclude installation:
